A modern tale of seeking fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs. A Landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a Landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and secure leases, so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, man-camps for workers, supervise the assembly of excavation machinery, and the drilling of the well site itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part Fixer, Problem Solver, and Facilitator. Quoted in CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This could have easily been rated 8.5 – 9. If it weren’t for the awkward and over-sexualized daughter and ex-wife/mother. They serve no purpose to the plot and are just annoying and offensive to West Texas women. As a West Texas man myself, I understand where Sheridan is coming from in a way, but this is awful. West Texas women are the strongest, most ambitious women I know. Now, other than that, the writing and acting are fantastic. Sheridan easily has another Yellowstone on her hands if she gets rid of the awkward inter-family excitement. But again, I love Sheridan’s writing (and acting) and a thoroughly enjoyable show, for the most part.
